HAYGAIN COMFORTSTALL

Our horses need a comfortable, supportive place for deep rest and sleep and clean air that supports easy breathing and peak respiratory function. We need to meet our horses’ needs with stable equipment that’s easy to maintain, controls costs and lasts a long time. ComfortStall does all that and much more!

DID YOU KNOW?

Standard rubber matting is typically only 3% softer than concrete. Deep bedding often creates a dusty environment which can lead to respiratory health issues. The familiar 'horsey' smell you get a waft of when entering a barn might actually contain toxic ammonia gases from a build up of urine fallen through the gaps of traditional rubber matting.

Frequently asked questions

Are stable rubber mats toxic?

ComfortStall rubber topcoat features five layers of non-toxic vulcanised sheeting.

Crumb rubber featured in geotextile flooring can be toxic and all rubber is toxic when burnt.

How many rubber mats do I need for my stable?

While most rubber stable mats require multiple sheets to fit a stable, ComfortStall’s IronClad TopCover is installed as a single piece of material that using a boxcutter, you will trim to the individual size for your needs. The impermeable surface allows for a completely sealed stable floor with no escape routes for urine, muck, or bedding.

How do I install ComfortStall?

ComfortStall is a self-fit product. Detailed installation instructions can be found here

Do you need to use bedding with rubber stable mats? If so, what bedding is best to use?

While standard rubber stable matting offers limited cushion and requires a considerable amount of bedding to provide support to your horse, ComfortStall on its own gives your horse all the cushion he requires. With ComfortStall, we suggest using only a small amount of absorbent bedding where your horse most frequently urinates to soak up any liquids.

How do I clean stable rubber mats?

Standard rubber stable mats are labour intensive to clean as they are heavy and messy. ComfortStall however, is very easy to clean, with its impermeable Ironclad TopCover. Simply remove any soiled bedding and hose or power wash out. This can be followed by a disinfectant if desired.

Do rubber stable mats absorb urine?

Standard rubber stable mats do not absorb urine, but the gaps in between the mats allow for urine to seep through to the subsurface where it tends to pool. This creates the perfect environment for urea to react with bacteria and off-gas as the respiratory irritant ammonia. Since ComfortStall is both impermeable and fully sealed, urine stays on top of the TopCover and is easily removed when mucking out or with a quick wash or sweep.

Can you use ComfortStall as horse trailer rubber flooring?

Yes, this ComfortStall works great in a trailer or lorry and can also be fitted up the walls. We would however advise to not fit studs or allow a horse with studs fitted to stand on ComfortStall, as this could cause damage to the TopCover. Standard nails and road studs are safe to stand on ComfortStall.

How do I muck out a stable with rubber matting?

Remove the droppings and wet bedding with a shavings fork or small shovel. ComfortStall on its own gives your horse all the cushion he requires. However, we suggest using a small amount of absorbent bedding where your horse most frequently urinates to soak up any liquids. If using bedding, remove the wet shavings and sweep out. If you are not using bedding the urine can be swept or washed out of the stable. This should only take 5-10 mins.

Will ComfortStall puncture or tear?

ComfortStall’s IronClad TopCover is incredibly durable and will not puncture or tear easily. However, we would advise to not fit studs or allow a horse with studs fitted to stand on ComfortStall, as this could cause damage to the TopCover. Standard nails and road studs are safe to stand on ComfortStall.

Are rubber stable mats slippery?

Rubber stable mats tend to be slippery when wet. However, ComfortStall’s IronClad TopCover is an anti-slip material. Additionally, the cushion provided by the orthopaedic foam causes the horse to sink slightly into the surface for additional grip.
