Are you worried about the dust in your hay?

If your horse coughs it could be a sign of a respiratory disease.

When endoscoped many horses that appear to be healthy (other than the coughing) are actually suffering from respiratory disease, which reduces their quality of life and performance.

Allergens, such and mould and fungal spores found in hay lead to respiratory disorders such as Inflammatory Airway Disease (IAD) and Recurrent Airway Obstruction (RAO), also known as COPD.

Why is it important to steam hay?

IAD is detrimental to the horse’s comfort and performance. However, a recent study* found steaming hay using a Haygain hay steamer reduced the incidence by 65%.

Other benefits of a Haygain hay steamer include:

  • Kills mold, bacteria, fungal spores and mites
  • Retains the nutritional value of the hay
  • Improves the palatability of the hay
  • Is suitable for laminitic, colic-prone and post-operative horses.
